The app is free to download but requires a paid account on the SafeAmigos OVERWATCH platform in order to work. If you already have an account on SafeAmigos, or one has been created for you, simply login using your email address and input the account code provided to you. If you don’t already have a paid account on SafeAmigos, don’t worry – you can create one through the app, for yourself and anyone else you would like to see protected. There are many different ways to use the app. FAMILY PROTECTION Family members with smartphones (young or old) can maintain independence and self-reliance, knowing that with a simple tap they can alert you or other family members if they need help. PERSONAL USE To use SafeAmigos, you will need to connect to one or more ‘Security Pods’ with your ‘Amigos’, i.e. your friends, family or work colleagues. You have the reassurance that whenever you are on your own undertaking activities such as walking, solo training (jogging, running, cycling), returning to a parked car, socializing, travelling on public transport or any other activity that concerns you, help is only a tap away. COLLEGE STUDENTS College may be the first time that students have lived away from home, or have had to commute by themselves. SafeAmigos helps to protect them both on AND off campus, keeping them safer no matter where they are. COLLEGES Colleges can sign up to keep staff and students safer, whether on the college campus, or working/studying outside the college, even if they are operating internationally. EMPLOYERS Traditionally, solutions like SafeAmigos were targeted at ‘lone workers’, typically staff working on their own without a fixed location. However, we have extended the definition to ‘people working alone’ because even office-based staff may have a need for SafeAmigos. Employers are now able to provide SafeAmigos to staff as part of their benefits package. By doing this, it also satisfies their ‘Duty of Care’ to provide staff with tools to create a safer working environment. Charities Charities (NGOs or Non-Governmental Organizations) often combine volunteers and paid staff. They may work in challenging environments and undertake tasks that may involve risk to personal safety. SafeAmigos can be used to help protect them, even if they are dispersed around the globe. HOW DOES IT WORK? Triggering an alert through this app (or through one of the other methods available from SafeAmigos), notifies people you trust that you need assistance. This can be family, friends, co-workers, a SOC (Security Operations Centre), approved third parties, or anyone else that you nominate and who has agreed to be a ‘Responder’. Your Responder(s) then get to see your location so they can arrange help. To avoid unnecessary panic and confusion, SafeAmigos manages the process of notifying your Responders so that you don’t get multiple people trying to contact you at the same time. IMPACT ON BATTERY The app uses location services, so there will be an impact on battery life. PRIVACY Your location is private unless an alert is triggered – it may then be released to your Responders and if appropriate, to approved third party Responders.
